Bryant Park has announced the inaugural Books on Broadway series as part of its retuning Bryant Park Reading Room. Ilana Levine of Little Known Facts with Ilana Levine will host the series' readings, which will take place at 12:30 PM on select dates.
Tony winner Harvey Fierstein will launch the series May 17 with a reading of selections from his recently released I Was Better Last Night: A Memoir. Following on May 19, associate director Raz Golden of Macbeth, currently playing on Broadway, will read from the Shakespeare tragedy.

The next week, Jodi Picoult will read alongside daughter and co-author Samantha van Leer from Between the Lines May 24, to be followed on May 26 by a reading of The Kite Runner by Amir Arison. The Blacklist star will play Amir in the upcoming Broadway stage adaptation of The Kite Runner, which will begin previews July 6. A new musical adaptation of Between the Lines is set to begin performance Off-Broadway at the Tony Kiser Theater June 14.
The series will finish out with a reading of Grease, Tell Me More, Tell Me More: Stories from the Broadway Phenomenon That Started It All by Tom Moore and Ken Waissman June 7. Co-authors Moore and Waissman served as director and producer, respectively, on the original Broadway production of the musical.
Bryant Park's outdoor Reading Room promotes a range of themes and genres of writing to the public for free. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the park's restoration, as well as the 20-year re-opening of the Reading Room, originally established in 1935 by the New York Public Library. Additional line-ups will be announced later this month.
