Out of the Blue, with music and lyrics by Emmy winner Sean P. Pallatroni and a book by Emmy winner Mark Mozzarella and Darren Butler, will have two industry readings at Ripley Grier Studios in NYC June 23 at 2 PM and June 24 at 3 PM.
The cast will feature Kevin McGuire (Les Miserables), Julia Abueva (K-Pop), Grace Capeless (Matilda), Max Bartos (Sing Street), Darron Hayes (Notes From Now), Gary Littman (Amazon’s Mrs. Maisel), Rebecca Lee Lerman, and newcomer Megan Colton, with ensemble members Evie Rosa Butler, Madison Howe, Julia Lawson, Sami Millerick, Kendall Raymond, and Kirsten Ward.
Based on true events, the musical follows 17-year-old visual art student Sienna, who begins to lose her eye sight during her senior year. With the help of her friends and tutor, she learns to navigate her diagnosis and the loss of her mother. The piece was a 2022 Eugene O’Neil semi-finalist.
The reading will feature direction by Jessica Wu, who previously starred in Miss Saigon, and is produced by Ellis Gage and Mazzarella with music direction by Pallatroni and Dan Sater. Shino Frances and Maya Partridge are the stage managers.
