This woman is on fire! Kecia Lewis was awarded the 2024 Tony for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for her performance as Miss Liza Jane in Hell's Kitchen. Watch Lewis react to her win in the video above, in an interview with Playbill's Jeffrey Vizcaíno.
"I'm trying to take it all in," Lewis says. "I'm not trying to put any kind of feeling on it, so what's coming up for me is just joy. It's just pure joy that has everything to do with just standing still, being me, and people saying 'Attagirl'...The reward is some little heavyset Black girl somewhere wanting to receive this some day, and seeing me, and going, 'You know what, I can do that. That lady did it, I can do it.'"
This is Lewis' first Tony win and first nomination. She made her Broadway debut in the original production of Dreamgirls in 1981, and is the first Black actress to win in this category since Renée Elise Goldsberry won for Hamilton in 2016.
