Donna Vivino—the standby for the role of Jersey, the part created by Tony nominee Shoshana Bean in the hit musical Hell's Kitchen—steps into the leading role December 3–11 at Broadway's Shubert Theatre.
The December 11 performance will mark Vivino’s final show in the Tony-nominated production. The Wicked star has been with the Alicia Keys musical since its Off-Broadway world premiere at the Public Theater.
Bean played her last performance December 1; Wicked's Jessica Vosk will take over the role beginning December 12.
Hell's Kitchen features music and lyrics by Keys and a book by Kristoffer Diaz. Inspired by the 15-time Grammy winner's life, the story centers on 17-year-old Ali and her mother, sharing a cramped apartment near Times Square. Ali wants to live out her NYC dream, but Mom is scared her daughter will repeat her own mistakes.
Hell's Kitchen officially opened at the Shubert Theatre April 20 after beginning previews March 28—read the reviews here. Michael Greif directs the musical, which features choreography by Camille A. Brown.
The cast stars Tony winner Maleah Joi Moon as Ali, Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton) as Davis, Tony winner Kecia Lewis (Ain't Misbehavin') as Miss Liza Jane, and Phillip Johnson Richardson as Knuck. Casting is by Heidi Griffiths and Kate Murray.
