International News The Parent Trap-Inspired Musical Identical Announces Its Twins

Tony and Olivier winner Trevor Nunn directs the West End-aimed musical's world premiere.

Identical

Three sets of identical twins have been cast for Identical, the upcoming musical adaptation of Erich Kästner's novel The Parent Trap, after a five-year casting search. Making its world premiere at England's Nottingham Playhouse beginning July 26, the show officially opens August 2 with a run through August 14. Olivier and Tony winner Trevor Nunn (CatsLes Misérables) directs the new musical, which features music and lyrics by Honk and Mary Poppins duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe and a book by Stuart Patterson.

Kyla and Nicole Fox, aged 12, from County Armagh, Northern Ireland; Emme and Eden Patrick, 12 from Waltham Abbey, England; and Sienna and Savannah Robinson, 12 from Bromley, England have all been cast to play Lottie and Lisa. They will be directed by Olivier and Tony winner Trevor Nunn.

Following Nottingham Playhouse, the show will transfer to Salford's The Lowry to play August 19-September 3. More performances will be announced at a later date for the West End-aimed musical. Kenny Wax (SixThe Play That Goes Wrong) is co-producing with Nottingham Playhouse.

Identical follows Lottie and Lisa, twin girls separated at birth, as they meet by chance at summer camp as 10-year-olds and devise a plan to swap identities and reunite their divorced parents. Kästner's novel has previously been adapted for film by Disney in 1961 starring Hayley Mills and again in 1998 starring Lindsay Lohan.

The creative team also includes choreographer Matt Cole, set designer Rob Jones, costume designer Jonathan Lipman, video designer Douglas O'Connell, lighting designer Johanna Town, sound designer Paul Gatehouse, musical supervisor Caroline Humphris, musical director Tamara Saringer, orchestrator Tom Curran, and wig and hair designer Richard Mawbey. Anne Vosser serves as casting director alongside Jo Hawes, who handles children's casting and administration. Digby Robinson will be production manager and Kenny Wax Ltd will provide general management.
