Principal casting has been announced for Opera North's upcoming production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita, which will be presented July 29-August 13 at the Lebanon Opera House in New Hampshire.

Directed by Evan Pappas (My Favorite Year, Parade), the cast will be headed by Jenny Ashman (Sleep No More) as Eva Peron, Brandon Rubendall (Spider-Man, Disaster!, Anything Goes) as Che and Mark Womack (La Bohème) as Juan Peron.

The production, which will be choreographed by Kurt Domoney and conducted by Opera North artistic director Louis Burkot, will also have set design by Paul Tate dePoo and lighting design by John Bartenstein.

The tempestuous musical about the rise of Argentina's provocative and controversial first lady Eva Peron will be given “a dynamic new production,” according to press notes.

Evita, which premiered as a two-LP recording starring Julie Covington (Eva) and Colm Wilkinson (Che), features a score by Lloyd Webber (music) and Rice (lyrics). Hal Prince staged both the original London and New York productions of the musical, which made stars of Elaine Paige (in London) and Mandy Patinkin and Patti LuPone (on Broadway). The score features such tunes as “Don't Cry for Me Argentina,” “Buenos Aires,” “A New Argentina,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall,” “I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You” and “Rainbow High.” Madonna, Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Pryce starred in the film version. The Broadway revival co-starred Elena Roger, Ricky Martin and Michael Cerveris.

Tickets, priced $15–$88, can be purchased online at Operanorth.org or through the Box Office at (603) 448-0400.
