Hollywood's awards season is officially underway with the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards, which were held January 7.

In a season rich with theatrical names and titles hitting the big screen, many Broadway favorites were among this year's nominees, with several bringing home gold. 

Da'Vine Joy Randolph, who was Tony nominated for her performance as Oda Mae Brown in Ghost the Musical, took home top honors for her performance in The Holdovers, winning Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture.

Her equally theatrical co-star, Paul Giamatti, also won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for his performance in The Holdovers. Giamatti was a familiar face on the Broadway stage at the turn of the century, appearing in Arcadia, Racing Demon, The Three Sisters, and The Iceman Cometh.

The comedy performance award sector was dominated by Broadway talent, with Cabaret's Emma Stone bringing in Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for her work on Poor Things, which also took home Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.

Lastly, the Barbie movie, which flirts with musical classification due to its variety of plot-specific songs, took home Best Original Song in a Motion Picture for “What Was I Made For?,” as well as the inaugural award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.
