The upcoming NYC premiere of Notre Dame de Paris has extended its run by a week and will now play Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater through July 24. Performances of the cult favorite French musical begin July 13, with a gala performance set on July 14, Bastille Day.
Newly announced principal casting has also revealed that a number of Notre Dame de Paris alum will star in the work's first-ever NYC performances, including Angelo Del Vecchio as Quasimodo, Hiba Tawaji as Esmeralda, Daniel Lavoie as Frollo, Gian Marco Schiaretti as Gringoire, Yvan Pedneault as Phoebus, Jay as Clopin, and Emma Lépine as Fleur de Lys.
The adaptation of Victor Hugo's 1831 novel Notre Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), written by Richard Cocciante and Luc Plamondon, has played 23 countries since premiering at the Palais des Congrès in Paris in 1998. The New York premiere, which will be performed in French with English supertitles, will be directed by Gilles Maheu and choreographed by Martino Müller, and follows a COVID-related delay of more than a year.
The New York engagement is produced by Nicolas and Charles Talar and Adam Blanshay Productions.
"It has long been a dream for the show to be performed in New York," said Nicolas Talar in an earlier statement. "Now after more than two decades and a wait made longer due to the pandemic, it is truly a thrill to know we will soon share this immortal story with New York audiences in one of the greatest arts complexes in the world. We hope Notre Dame de Paris will please our existing fans as well as make new ones."
