The Off-Broadway venue will stage nine productions from five different countries.

The New Victory Theater has announced the lineup for their 2022-2023 season, including many family friendly productions for young theatregoers.

“The 2022-23 New Victory season marks our return to presenting international shows on the New Victory stage, with nine shows from five different countries,” shares Artistic Director Mary Rose Lloyd. “We welcome these artists from abroad to our stage with great joy, and can’t wait to share them with new and returning audiences.”

The season will begin October 14 with the return of Cookin’, from PMC Production Co. and Broadway Asia Company. An explosive percussion show, Cookin' is the longest running show in South Korean history, featuring a mixture of martial arts and Korean samul nori drumming. Cookin’ has toured internationally since 1997, and previously played the New Victory in 2003. Cookin’ will run October 14–30.

The Acting Company’s Romeo and Julietrunning November 11–20, will be presented in the contemporary chaos of a southern city steeped in class and racial conflict. Directed by Leah C. Gardiner, this will be the premiere staging of the production.

The Acting Company's The Three Musketeers, running November 12–27, will play in repertory with Romeo and Juliet, performed on alternating days by the same cast. This world premiere adaptation, based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas and commissioned by The Acting Company, reclaims the classic as a work of Black imagination. The show is written and adapted by Kirsten Childs (The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin) and directed by Kent Gash, the new Artistic Director of The Acting Company.

Ethiopian circus Circus Abyssinia will return for the holidays from December 9 through January 1, 2023 with Tulu, which honors Ethiopian runner Derartu Tulu's trailblazing 1992 gold medal win through a mixture of aerial, acrobatic, and artistic circus acts.

New musical Hip Hop Cinderella will run from February 10–26, 2023. Featuring music and lyrics by Rona Siddiqui (A Strange Loop) and a book by Scott Elmegreen, the piece began in the digital theatre landscape during 2020. Hip Hop Cinderella is recommended for ages seven and above.

Baobob, running March 11–19, 2023 from Théâtre Motus and the SÔ Company, invites audiences to hear djembe drums dance and ngoni’s strings sing as the griots tell you a tale. Featuring music from Mali and Senegal, puppets large and small, one naughty monkey, and a witch with an itch to dance, Baobab is a percussion-filled fable about a boy’s heroic quest to save his village from drought. Baobob is recommended for ages four to seven.

Zephyr, running March 24–April 16, 2023, will present a new masterpiece of mechanics: a 20-foot-tall windmill powered by human strength alone. Set on a rotating turntable, Zephyr is a whirlwind acrobatic show presented by Cirque Mechanics, their fifth with New Victory following Birdhouse Factory in 2008, Boom Town in 2011, Pedal Punk in 2015, and 42FT in 2019.

Wink, running April 22–May 7, 2023, takes audiences into a dreamscape where mountains morph into oceans, twinkling stars turn into fish, and ships sail into the night sky. Utilizing shadow puppetry, projections, and physicality, Spellbound Theatre (The World Inside Me) communicates a world of adventure without saying a word. Wink is recommended for ages four through seven.

Shakespeare’s Stars, running May 11–21, 2023, is also created by Spellbound Theatre. A multi-sensory experience, Shakespeare’s Stars invites tiny hands and feet to discover infinite possibilities in The Bard’s best lines about the cosmos. Spellbound Theatre developed Shakespeare's Stars as part of New Victory LabWorks in 2019 and 2020. Shakespeare’s Stars is recommended for kids aged three and under.
