The cast for the American premiere of Elizabeth Baker's Partnership has been revealed—and it features a number of Broadway alums. The Mint Theater Company production will begin performances September 30 at Off-Broadway's Theatre Row where it will open October 19. A run is set through November 12.
Starring will be Broadway alums Tony-nominated Christiane Noll (Ragtime), Gina Daniels (Network), Gene Gillette (To Kill a Mockingbird), and Tom Patterson (1984) alongside Joshua Echebiri (Merry Wives), Madeline Seidman (Becomes a Woman), and Sara Haider in her Off-Broadway debut.
Partnership is a light comedy from 1917 about Kate Rolling, a shopowner in Brighton eager to grow her small, but smart, business. And the opportunity to do so comes along—with a marriage proposal, too!—when George Pillatt pitches a merger with his shop, the biggest in Brighton.
Jackson Grace Gay (A Little Journey) directs the production, helming a creative team comprising scenic designer Alexander Woodward, costume designer Fabian Aguilar, lighting designer M.L. Geiger, sound designer Daniel Baker, props designer Chris Fields, and dialect coach and dramaturg Amy Stoller. Casting is by Stephanie Klapper.
Partnership marks the third and final installment in the Mint's "Meet Miss Baker" series that began in 2019. Previous offerings in the series include The Price of Thomas Scott and Chains. The series is part of Mint's commitment to highlight neglected women playwrights. Baker was a widely discussed playwright in England during her time, and wrote 13 produced plays. She focused on illuminating the interior lives of working women, and worked as a professional playwright until declining production prospects in the 1930s led to the conclusion of her career.
