Regional News Dallas Theater Center Season Will Feature In the Heights, Little Women, Pipeline, The Supreme Leader Tony nominee Jayne Atkinson will also star in Holland Taylor’s solo show Ann.

Dallas Theater Center, the recipient of the 2017 Regional Theatre Tony Award, has announced its 2019–2020 season, which will include Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegria Hudes’ Tony-winning In the Heights.

Directed by James Vasquez, the Washington Heights-set musical, which won 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography, and Best Orchestrations, will launch the season September 21 in the Potter Rose Performance Hall at the Wyly Theatre.

Emmy winner Holland Taylor’s Ann, a no-holds-barred portrait of legendary Texas governor Ann Richards, will follow, playing October 15-November 10 in the Kalita Humphreys Theater. Two-time Tony nominee Jayne Atkinson (Enchanted April, The Rainmaker) will star under the direction of Kristen Von Ginhoven. The Dallas Theater Center staging is a co-production with Washington, D.C.'s Arena Stage.

Little Women, a new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel by Kate Hamill, will play the Kalita Humphreys Theater. Performances are scheduled for February 7-March 1, 2020.

Henry Godinez will direct José Cruz Gonzalez’s American Mariachi in the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre’s Potter Rose Performance Hall March 14-April 5. The 1970s-set comedy concerns Lucha, who yearns to break her monotonous days caring for her ailing mother by forming an all-girl mariachi band.


Dominique Morriseau’s Pipeline, about the state of American education, and the world premiere of Don X. Nguyen’s The Supreme Ruler will both be seen in the Studio Theatre’s Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, running April 3-May 10 and June 3-July 12, respectively. The latter is a fictionalized coming-of-age comedy about North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.

Subscribers will also be able to add on Charles Dickens’ holiday classic A Christmas Carol, adapted by Kevin Moriarty, which is scheduled for a November 21-December 29 engagement. Joel Ferrell will direct the tale of joy, redemption, and the spirit of Christmas.

Casting and additional creative team members will be announced at a later time.
