The production was nominated for 13 2008 Tony Awards, winning four, including Best Musical.

In the Heights is a celebration of community and family, both related and chosen,” says director Vásquez in a statement. “It takes us back to summer 2008, Washington Heights, NYC. With the help of Lin-Manuel Miranda's brilliant score—oh my gosh, this music!—we get a closer look at one particular neighborhood. In the Heights has a very universal heartbeat, and with the wonderful intimacy of the MAX Theatre, I can't wait to welcome all of the Signature audience into our 'neighborhood.' I can't think of a better way to make my Signature directorial debut than with this story of hope, resilience, and, most of all, pride in who we are and where we come from.”

The upcoming production will also have scenic design by Andrew R. Cohen, costume design by Ivania Stack, lighting design by Rui Rita, sound design by Eric Norris, and wig design by Anne Nesmith. Casting is by Jorge Acevedo with New York casting by Geoff Josselson.

Kerry Epstein is the production stage manager, and Stephen Bubniak and Taylor Kiechlin are the assistant stage managers.
