Casting has been revealed for the previously reported West End production and newly announced Toronto run of Just for One Day—The Live Aid Musical.
After a record-breaking premiere at London's Old Vic in 2024, the musical will make its North American premiere at Toronto's CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre January 26–March 16. The production will subsequently play the Shaftesbury Theatre in the West End May 15–January 10, 2026. A special gala performance is also scheduled for July 13, exactly 40 years after the concerts were staged in London and Philadelphia.
Joining the previously announced Craige Els, who originated the role of Bob Geldof at The Old Vic, will be Kelly Agbowu, Julie Atherton, Jason Battersby, Jordan Cambridge-Taylor, Eloise Davies, James Hameed, Fayth Ifil, Melissa Jacques, Hope Kenna, AJ Lewis, Freddie Love, Tim Mahendran, Rhianne-Louise McCaulsky, Jack Michael Stacey, Emily Ooi, Ashley Samuels, Sadie-Jean Shirley, Jake Small, Tamara Tare and George Ure, with Kerry Enright, Evan Fox Harrison, Esme Laudat, Eddie Mann, Jaye Marshall, Lukin Simmonds, and Dyd Wynford.
Featuring the songs of Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Who, U2, Queen, The Police, Elton John, Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, The Cars, Status Quo, Paul Weller, Sade, The Boomtown Rats, Bryan Adams, Diana Ross, Ultravox, and more, Just for One Day tells the story of Live Aid, when 70 artists performed, for free, in front of an audience of 1.5 billion in a "global jukebox" at Wembley Stadium, London, and John F. Kennedy Stadium, Philadelphia, to raise $127 million for famine relief.
The work is written by John O’Farrell (Mrs. Doubtfire, Something Rotten!) and directed by Luke Sheppard (& Juliet, The Little Big Things). Read the reviews for the Old Vic run here.
The upcoming productions will also have musical supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Matthew Brind, choreography by Ebony Molina, sets by Soutra Gilmour, costumes by Fay Fullerton, lighting by Howard Hudson, sound by Gareth Owen, video and animation by Andrzej Goulding, and casting by Stuart Burt.
