Shoshana Bean has joined the cast of Arena Stage's upcoming run of Sarah Silverman's The Bedwetter. The musical—which features a book co-written by the comedian with Joshua Harmon, music by Adam Schlesinger, and lyrics by Schlesinger and Silverman—will play the D.C. company's Kreeger Theater February 4-March 16, 2025. Opening night will be February 13.

Bean, who is new to the musical, will be playing Sarah's mother, Beth Ann. Further casting is to be announced.

“This project and this team grabbed my heart in a very special and unique way,” says Bean in a statement. “I’m so excited to be in the room with them and honored to get to be a part of telling this equally heartbreaking and hilarious story.”

“Shoshana’s prismatic rendering of Beth Ann Silverman is absolutely staggering,” adds production director Anne Kauffman. “I cannot wait for D.C. audiences to witness her performance! Her wit, vulnerability, and edge are astonishing. And then to hear her sing…it’s nothing short of sublime.”

The musical, adapted from Silverman's memoir The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee, follows Sarah, a funny 10-year-old with a secret that's not so secret if you read the title. The work made its world premiere Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company in 2022.

Kauffman is directing the D.C. run after helming the world premiere, but it doesn't appear that the new production will be a straight remount of the Off-Broadway staging. The Arena bow will be choreographed by Danny Mefford (Kimberly Akimbo), who is new to the show. David Yazbek, previously billed as a creative consultant on the project, is now credited with additional music and lyrics (composer and co-lyricist Schlesinger died in 2020). Further creative team members are to be announced.

Arena is producing the musical by special arrangement with Tom Kirdahy and Barry and Fran Weissler.

Tickets are available at ArenaStage.org.
