Broadway Licensing has acquired theatrical publisher and licensing company Stage Rights, which will add such works as The Marvelous Wonderettes, Broadbend Arkansas, Lend Me a Tenor The Musical, and more to the Broadway Licensing library.
The move follows Broadway Licensing's recent acquisition of Dramatists Play Service and is a continuation of the consolidation the theatrical licensing industry has seen in the last few years. Concord Theatricals' 2018 acquisition of the Samuel French, Rodgers and Hammerstein Theatricals, Tams-Witmark, and Musical Company libraries transformed the theatrical licensing landscape from one comprising a variety of smaller companies into a field dominated by a select few major power brokers, also including the Cameron Mackintosh-owned Music Theatre International and the privately held Theatrical Rights Worldwide.
“We are thrilled to welcome Stage Rights and its catalog of shows into the Broadway Licensing family,” says Broadway Licensing President and CEO Sean Cercone in a statement. “Our unique approach to licensing continues to create increased value and opportunity for our authors while also expanding the reach of the titles we represent into all corners of the globe. It is exciting to have the incredibly talented Roger Bean and the amazing shows he has written and represents join us in our quest to make everyone a theatre person.”
"Stage Rights has always tried to find interesting and inventive ways to bring the shows in our catalog to the attention of theatres and their audiences," adds Stage Rights President Roger Bean. "I think we’re honoring that idea by becoming part of the family at Broadway Licensing. Their commitment to theatre as an art form is admirable, and the depth and strength of their marketing will help the titles in the Stage Rights catalog soar to new heights.”
