Benefits and Galas Bernadette Peters Steps Up for Manhattan Theatre Club's January 23 Winter Benefit

Peters will perform in place of Kelli O'Hara, who has tested positive for COVID and is no longer able to headline the evening.

Tony winner Bernadette Peters is stepping in last minute to perform at Manhattan Theatre Club's Winter Benefit January 23 at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. The annual event supporting MTC begins this evening with a cocktail reception at 7 PM.

Tony winner Kelli O'Hara was originally set to headline the benefit accompanied by Dan Lipton, but has had to step aside from the evening due to testing positive for COVID. Joseph Thalken (WasHarold & Maude) has joined the evening as music director. 

MTC Artistic Director Lynne Meadow said in a statement, “Bernadette is a legend in our industry and is one of our most beloved stars. I am so grateful that she was able to step in tonight. She has been a great friend to MTC since she and I worked together in 1982 on the MTC production of Sally and Marsha. Bernadette subsequently joined MTC’s Board of Directors and we are all honored that she is a treasured member of the MTC family.”

The actor won two Tony awards for her performances in Song and Dance and Annie Get Your Gun, as well as receiving the Isabelle Stevenson Award. With a further five Tony nominations, Peters' long list of Broadway credits include Hello, Dolly!A Little Night MusicFolliesGypsyThe Goodbye GirlSunday in the Park with GeorgeInto the Woods, Mack & MabelOn the Town, and many more.

The annual event's proceeds support MTC's development and presentation of new work, as well as its education program.

The season marks Lynne Meadow's 50th as artistic director.
