Aleshea Harris' On Sugarland begins previews at Off-Broadway's New York Theatre Workshop February 5 following delays to allow for additional technical rehearsals. The production, which was initially set to begin February 2, is headed for a February 23 opening night, with the limited engagement scheduled to continue though March 13.

KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk) stars as Sadie, alongside Stephanie Berry (Fantasy Island) as Evelyn, Thomas Walter Booker (Blue Bloods) as The Rowdy, Caleb Eberhardt (Choir Boy) as Addis, Xavier Scott Evans (Love Life) as The Rowdy, Mister Fitzgerald (The Blacklist) as The Rowdy, Josh Fulton (Everybody Black) as The Rowdy, Charisma Glasper (Russian Doll) as The Rowdy, Kai Heath (Much Ado About Nothing) as The Rowdy, Shemar Yanick Jonas (The Equalizer) as The Rowdy, Billy Eugene Jones (A Soldier’s Play) as Saul, Mariyea (bloodymessysurprised) as The Rowdy, LizanMitchell (Cullad Wattah) as Tisha, and Adeola Role (Blue Bloods) as Odella.

The new play from the Is God Is and What to Send Up When It Comes Down playwright follows Sadie as she calls upon generations of matriarchal ancestors in search of truth about her own mother—on storied land that is now a southern cul-de-sac.

Obie winner Whitney White (Semblance, What to Send Up When It Goes Down) directs, leading a creative team that includes scenic designer Adam Rigg, costume designer Qween Jean, lighting designer Amith Chandrashaker, sound designer Mikaal Sulaiman, choreographer Raja Feather Kelly, and dramaturg Lauren Whitehead. Original music is by Starr Busby with hair and wig design by Earon Nealey and fight direction by UnkleDave's Fight-House. Alfredo Maxias serves as stage manager.

In compliance with New York City guidelines, all audience members are required to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 and wear a face mask at all times inside the building.
