Merciful Delusions Productions will present Tennessee Williams' rarely produced one acts Moony’s Kid Don’t Cry, The Lady of Larkspur Lotion, The Case of the Crushed Petunias, and Hello From Bertha beginning November 2. Tony nominee Lorraine Serabian will direct all four works, which will run through November 12 in Theatre 1 at Off-Broadway's Theatre Row.
The four works share a common exploration of "delusions of grandeur." The cast includes Elizabeth Bove, JR Carter, Elena Clark, Josh Freed, Marie-Claire Giraud, Steven J. Harris, Janelle (Jyan) Jung, Michelle Oppedisano, Aurora Quintard, Martin Riofrio, and Joey Welsh, as well as AEA members Letty Ferrer, Nicole Gut, and Natalie Neckyfarow.
Gut, who founded Merciful Delusions, will play Bertha in Hello From Bertha, and also serves as producer for all four shows. “Tennessee Williams gives an actor and director so much juicy stuff to work with between character, dialogue, and emotion. He just understood what it was like to be down and out. The theme of delusions runs through all his works, and many of his characters. He writes so empathetically, so mercifully," said Gut in a statement.
This is the company's fifth production of Tennessee Williams' works, and Serabian's fifth time collaborating with Gut to direct Merciful Delusions' productions of Tennessee Williams.
Serabian originated the role of “The Leader” in Hal Prince’s Zorba on Broadway, earning her a Tony nomination for her performance. She also won the Helen Hayes Award for Show Me Where the Good Times Are, as well as a Helen Hayes nomination for Lucky Stiff.
