Cabaret & Concert News Tony Winner Heather Headley to Lead Woodstock 50th Anniversary Concert The Lion King and Aida star will headline A Celebration of Love and Peace on August 24.

Heather Headley, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning star of The Lion King, The Bodyguard, and most recently, the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, will lead the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Concert, A Celebration of Peace and Love on August 24.

The concert will take place at the Woodstock Playhouse in Woodstock, New York. Headley will be joined by a roster of Broadway performers under the direction of Wayne Cilento.

Headley just finished a fall convert tour, during which she played Washington, D.C., New York, and Boston.

She is the winner of the 2000 Tony Award as Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in Aida. She created the role of Nala in the world premiere of Disney’s The Lion King, and later starred as Rachel Marron in the premiere of The Bodyguard—The Musical in London’s West End. Headley most recently returned to Broadway as nightclub singer Shug Avery in the Tony Award-winning revival of The Color Purple. She won the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album for her third studio album, Audience of One.
