Shereen Pimentel, who played Maria in the recent Broadway revival of West Side Story, is part of MasterVoices' June 8 outdoor free concert, concluding its 80th anniversary season.

Led by Artistic Director and Tony winner Ted Sperling, the evening, entitled Songs for a Summer Night, will be held at the new Waterline Square Park on the Upper West Side. Show time is 7 PM; rain date is June 9 at 7 PM at the same location.

The concert, demonstrating how the sounds of summer delight and inspire, also features composer and tenor Tariq Al-Sabir, the MasterVoices Chorus, and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Attendees can expect to hear the world premiere of Al-Sabir's Summers Are Growing Longer, commissioned by MasterVoices; Sperling’s arrangement of Stephen Sondheim’s "Night Music Waltzes" from A Little Night Music; Mendelssohn’s "Scherzo" and "Song with Choir" from his suite of music for A Midsummer Night's Dream; as well as tunes by Ricky Ian GordonStephen Schwartz, Charles StrouseFrank Loesser, and more.

Sperling said in an earlier statement, “It has been thrilling to be with a live audience again this season. What a pleasure it will be to share a beautiful June evening with our community as we close our 80th anniversary season with a program that evokes the sounds, smells, and emotions of summer, as imagined by some of our greatest composers, and to hear the contemporary musical ideas of Tariq Al-Sabir inspired by the sounds of summer in New York.”

No reservations are needed for the free concert. A limited number of first-come, first-served seats are available, and concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Visit MasterVoices.org.
