Broadway Inspirational Voices (BIV) celebrated its 30th anniversary December 16 with a starry concert, and Playbill has the pictures to prove it!
The Tony-honored nonprofit and Grammy-nominated choir, which is composed of Broadway performers, performed at NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts near Washington Square Park. Dedicated to spreading positivity and fostering change through the power of music, Broadway Inspirational Voices was established in 1996.
"30 years ago, the BIV journey began with a set of artists, while pursuing their individual dreams and passions, heeded a call at a time when our community was in despair. These artists, not thinking of what they could 'gain,' pursued the idea of what they could 'give.' Without hesitation, they said 'yes,' giving their gifts freely to a cause, expecting nothing in return. Together, they became the seed that would grow into the Broadway Inspirational Voices," reads a statement from the group. "We celebrate every single 'yes' that each artist has freely given. Every 'yes' that has brought healing and joy to our community and beyond. We will take a journey through the BIV repertoire, past and present, gaining a deeper understanding of not only the GIFT, which is the music, but also the source of inspiration and the heart of the gifters."
The concert, which included gospel, Broadway, and generally inspirational repertoire, was directed by Angela Robinson (The Haves and Have Nots, Lady In The Lake) and featured Donald Lawrence, Adriane Lenox, Shayna Steele, Billy Porter, Crystal Monee Hall, Melody A. Betts, Anastasia Talley, LaTrisa Harper, and the LaGuardia High School Gospel Choir, in addition to the members of BIV.
