Two-time Tony honoree Hugh Jackman is on the promo circuit, getting the word out about his big screen return as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, in movie theatres August 26. And, on a recent visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the stage and screen star promoted the action superhero flick in the most straightforward way possible: suiting up to become a human claw machine.
Yes, inspired by Wolverine's bio-mutated weapon of choice, both Jackman and Fallon donned claw hands and were attached to a fly rig to see who could capture the most stuffies in three runs. See who came out on top in this very, very serious challenge above.
Of course, Playbill readers will know Jackman for his markedly less violent turns on the Main Stem in The Music Man and The Boy From Oz, the latter of which earned him his first Tony Award. Jackman actually began his career in musical theatre, playing roles in Les Misérables, Sunset Boulevard, and Oklahoma! in Australia and/or London's West End before becoming a big screen superhero.
Filmed in 2023, the one-night-only event featured Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald, Peter Friedman, and more from the Ahrens and Flaherty musical's original cast.
