Broadway News Tony Winners Tyne Daly and Liev Schreiber Will Return to Broadway in Doubt: A Parable

Roundabout Theatre Company will produce the first revival of John Patrick Shanley’s prize-winning play.

John Patrick Shanley's award-winning play Doubt: A Parable will return to Broadway starring Tyne Daly and Liev Schreiber. Performances will begin February 2024 at Roundabout Theatre Company's American Airlines Theatre. 

Set in an all-boys Catholic school in the Bronx, the drama ensues when the strict Sister Aloysius (Daly) begins to suspect an inappropriate relationship between Father Flynn (Schreiber) and a student. Scott Ellis will direct.

Doubt: A Parable opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre March 31, 2005, and ran for over a year. It was nominated for eight Tony Awards, winning four, including Best Play; Best Actress for Cherry Jones; Best Featured Actress for Adriane Lenox, who played the mother of the student; and Best Direction for Doug Hughes. Shanley was also awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The work received a film adaptation in 2008 starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Viola Davis, all receiving Academy Award nominations for their performances.

Daly was last seen on Broadway in 2015's It Shoulda Been You. She is a Tony winner for her turn as Mama Rose in the 1990 revival of Gypsy. Schreiber is a Tony winner for the 2005 revival of Glengarry Glen RossHis other Broadway credits include Talk Radio, A View From the Bridge, and Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

This inclusion completes the 2023–24 season for Roundabout. Previously announced titles include The Refuge Plays by Nathan Alan Davis, directed by Patricia McGregor; Covenant by York Walker, directed by Tiffany Nichole Greene; I Need That by Theresa Rebeck, directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel (set to star Danny DeVito with his daughter Lucy); Home by Samm-Art Williams, directed by Kenny Leon; and Jonah by Rachel Bonds, directed by Danya Taymor.
