Based on the Michael Cunningham novel, the opera has a score by Pulitzer-winning composer Kevin Puts and a libretto by Greg Pierce.

Great Performances at the Met continues on PBS March 17 with the debut of The Hours, starring Tony winner Kelli O'Hara, Tony nominee Renée Fleming, and Joyce DiDonato. The work, which was broadcast to movie theatres live in December 2022, begins at 9 PM ET; check local listings. The opera also streams via the PBS Video app and will be seen on WLIW 21 March 24 at 1 AM ET.

Based on the novel by Michael Cunningham, the opera by Pulitzer-winning composer Kevin Puts, with a libretto by Greg Pierce, follows three women: Virginia Woolf in 1929, in the process of writing Mrs. Dalloway; Laura Brown in 1949, who is reading it; and Clarissa Vaughan toward the end of the 20th century, who is seemingly living it. The roles are played, respectively, by DiDonato, O'Hara, and Fleming.

Also in the cast are Kathleen Kim, Sylvia D'Eramo, Denyce Graves, John Holiday, William Burden, Sean Panikkar, Kyle Ketelsen, and Brandon Cedel.

The production is directed by Phelim McDermott, with scenic and costume design by Tom Pye, lighting design by Bruno Poet, projection design by Finn Ross, and choreography by Annie-B Parson

The Hours made its Metropolitan Opera premiere in November 2022.
