Strictly Ballroom

The hit Australian musical adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom, featuring songs by Diane Warren, Sia and David Foster, along with favorites from the film, will receive its North American premiere April/May 2017 as part of the Mirvish season in Toronto.

The musical about competitive ballroom dancing had its premiere at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in 2014.

Also announced is the new musical version of Mrs. Henderson Presents, which had its London premiere in February. The musical, which has a score by George Fenton and Simon Chamberlain and a book and direction by Terry Johnson, centers on two women theatre owners in 1937 London who concoct a “scandalous” plan to boost business.

In time for the U.S. presidential election, Mirvish will also present the interactive play Fight Night, which takes the form of an actual political election, allowing audiences to cast their votes via mobile devices as five candidates campaign in front of the audience. Performances begin in November.
