Cole Escola's Oh, Mary! completes its three-times extended Off-Broadway run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre May 12, but a Broadway transfer is next. The campy comedy will head to the Lyceum Theatre for a 12-week limited run beginning June 26 ahead of a July 11 opening night.
Written by and starring Escola, Oh, Mary! centers on famous First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. In Escola's demented take (or, as press notes put it, "through the lens of an idiot"), Mary Todd becomes a madcap, cabaret-obsessed alcoholic. The piece opened Off-Broadway February 8, later earning three 2024 Outer Critics Circle nominations (including Outstanding New American Play and nods for Escola and Conrad Ricamora's performances) and an Off Broadway Alliance Award nomination for Best New Play. The cast features Escola as Mary Todd Lincoln, Ricamora as Mary's Husband, James Scully as Mary's Teacher, Bianca Leigh as Mary's Chaperone, and Tony Macht as Mary's Husband's Assistant. The complete Off-Broadway cast, including understudies Hannah Solow and Peter Smith, will reprise their work on Broadway.
