After selling out its in-person engagement at London's Sondheim Theatre, Cameron Mackintosh's upcoming tribute concert to late musical theatre trailblazer Stephen Sondheim will simultaneously screen live at the Prince Edward Theatre. Bernadette Peters, Elaine Paige, Imelda Staunton, Clive Rowe, Julian Ovenden, Janie Dee, Judi Dench, and more are set to perform at the event May 3 at 7 PM.
The concert will benefit the Stephen Sondheim Foundation, established by the Broadway icon's estate to support playwrights, composers, and lyricists in the early stages of their career and to assist in the development and advancement of their work, along with sustaining other elements of musical theatre craft and arts education.
The simulcast is being powered by The Luna Cinema.
Directed and choreographed by Matthew Bourne, the production played
the Chichester Festival Theatre this past summer and will arrive in
London later this month.
The play comes on the heels of a broader cultural conversation about Dahl's work and the prejudice that was embedded in many of his most beloved stories.
The recording will be available on standard black vinyl, a limited-edition deluxe gatefold "pop-up" vinyl, and compact disc alongside digital versions.
