Off-Broadway's Soho Rep has extended Montag by Kate Tarker (THUNDERBODIES) by one-week for a run now through November 20. The comedy thriller began previews for its world premiere run October 12 and opened October 23.
Ariana Venturi (The Minutes) and Nadine Malouf (The Vagrant Trilogy) star as American expat Faith and Turkish immigrant Novella, respectively. Living in a German town near an American military base, the best friends hide out in Novella's basement apartment where they practice unusual combat skills "armed with wine, potato chips, and the very best speakers they can afford."
The play about female friendship and contemporary geopolitics also stars Dane Suarez (Pagliacci) as Greg, and Jacob Orr (EVIL) as David/Death.
“I wanted to write about a transformative bond between two women who are funny, contradictory, vibrant, and uncompromising—and facing down a moment of absolute crisis in their lives," said Tarker in an earlier statement. "They are under-resourced, under-slept, and—based on limited intel—quite possibly under siege, but they radically commit to meeting and defending their needs."
Dustin Wills (Wolf Play) directs the production which features original opera music by Daniel Schlosberg (Only An Octave Apart). Rounding out the creative team are set designer Lisa Laratta, Tony-winning costume designer Montana Levi Blanco, lighting designer Masha Tsimring, sound designer Sinan Refik Zafar, props designer Patricia Marjorie, fight director Hannah Roccisano, and production stage manager Kasson Marroquin.
Commissioned by Soho Rep with support from James Gleick and Cynthia Crossen, the work was written with Soho Rep's intimate performance space in mind.
