Nadia Guevara will direct the performance, which is part of RBT's exploration of Hispanic Golden Age Classics.

Red Bull Theater (RBT) has announced it will stage a reading of Lope de Vega's The Beast of Hungary September 17 at 7:30 PM at Sheen Center Shiner Theatre. The reading is part of RBT's Revelation Reading series, as well as its exploration of Hispanic Golden Age Classics.

Nadia Guevara directs a cast that features b (TorosAmerican (Tele)visions), Shirine Babb (A Beautiful NoiseThe Piano Lesson), Jimonn Cole (black odysseyOur Lady of 121st Street), Darryl Gene Daughtry, Jr. (The Inheritance), Jill Durso (Einstein), Zachary Fine (China DollArden of Faversham), Santino Fontana (Tootsie, Your Own Thing), Ismenia Mendes (MacbethMarys Seacole), Maria-Christina Oliveras (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Amélie), Sean Runnette, Han Van Sciver (Kit Marlowe), and Chauncy Thomas (To Kill a Mockingbird).

“Our investigation of Hispanic Golden Age classics has yielded wonderful results over the last few years—fantastic plays that have never before been heard in English, and which are now entering the canon for productions throughout our country and beyond," RBT Artistic Director Jesse Berger said in a statement. "This year’s play, The Beast of Hungary, is no exception. With an incredible plot, and this fantastic cast, it will blow your classical socks off. The performance will be live-streamed simultaneously, and a recording will be available from September 18 at 7:30 PM EST through September 23 at 11:59 PM EST.

The reading is produced in partnership with UCLA’s Diversifying the Classics Initiative as part of the 2024 L.A. Escena Festival.
