The Acting Company's Louanna O. Carlin & John MacDonald Reading Series will showcase three readings: The Misanthrope, Billy Strayhorn: Something to Live For, and Three Sisters (after Chekhov.)

Kicking off the series will be Molière's The Misanthrope, translated by Neil Bartlett. Directed by Devin Brain, the upcoming reading will set the beloved French comedy of manners in a Hollywood film studio. The reading will be held February 6 at 7 PM at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater.

Billy Strayhorn: Something to Live For, directed by Kent Gash, will follow March 6 at 7 PM at the Mainstage Theater. Featuring music from the titular jazz legend, a book by Robert Zellers with Kent Gash, the work explores Strayhorn's collaborations with Duke Ellington and his life as an openly-gay jazz innovator. 

Closing out the series is Mustapha Matura's Chekhov adaptation, Three Sisters (after Chekhov), directed by Seret Scott. Set in Colonial Trinidad, 1941, three sisters are living a life of privilege in the capital, but their stories provoke the question of how people can transform themselves, whether unconsciously or willingly, in order to survive. This final reading of the 2023 series will be held May 22 at 7 PM in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater.
