Two industry-only presentations of George Eastman's new play, Harry Townsend's Last Stand, will be offered in Manhattan May 21 and 22 at 3 PM at Nola Studios (250 West 54th Street).
Tony and Emmy winner Len Cariou (Sweeney Todd) will star in the readings with Warren Bub (Gotham). Emmy winner Peter Scolari (Newhart, Wicked) will direct.
In the play, widower Harry Townsend (Cariou), almost 85, is more fragile than ever, but with all his verbal spunk intact. He is delighted that his son Alan (Bub) is finally coming home from California for a visit. Alan, however, arrives only to tell Harry that he must move out of the home he built with his late wife and into an assisted living community.
Filmed in 2023, the one-night-only event featured Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald, Peter Friedman, and more from the Ahrens and Flaherty musical's original cast.
Surrounded by period-accurate, 19th-century holiday decorations lit via candlelight, the 70-minute production is based on Dickens' own script of the classic.
