Industry News New York Theatre Barn to Host Roundtable Discussion on Understudies and Swings

The live-streamed event will discuss the current challenges and opportunities facing some of theatre's most vital artists.

New York Theatre Barn will host A Seat at the Table: A Panel on Understudies and Swings, set to be held virtually April 4 at 7:30 PM ET.

The panel will discuss the opportunities and challenges currently facing understudies, swings, and standbys. Moderating the roundtable will be Sirius XM Broadway Radio’s Julie James, leading a discussion with Kathryn Allison (Company, Aladdin), Ted Arthur (The Prom, Diana), Jordan Dobson (Hadestown, West Side Story), Karla Puno Garcia (Hamilton, West Side Story), Linedy Genao (Dear Evan Hansen, On Your Feet), Karen Mason (Sunset Boulevard, Hairspray), JJ Nieman (The Book of Mormon), and Kathy Voytko (The Music Man, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder).

The live conversation is also a benefit for New York Theatre Barn, founded in 2007 as an inclusive home for creating original musicals.

Sponsors for the roundtable include Faber-Castell USA, Marché Berber, and Broadway Boxed Up. The panel follows three others in the A Seat at the Table series presented by New York Theatre Barn, with earlier entries centering on Latinx theatre creators, women in theatre, and inclusivity.
