Audible Theater has announced programming for its fifth anniversary year, including a live show featuring Tony winner Laura Benanti, the world premiere of Dead Outlaw, an audio adaption of Wild With Happy, and four new Audio Originals starring Chris Gethard, Michael Cruz Kayne, Karla Souza, and more.
Kicking off the new year is Benanti's solo show Nobody Cares, which will be performed February 2–4, 2024, at Off-Broadway's Minetta Lane Theatre before being released through Audible Originals.
The world premiere of Dead Outlaw, a new musical from the creative team behind The Band's Visit, will run February 28–April 7, marking Audible's first-ever commissioned musical. Dead Outlaw features a book by Itamar Moses (The Band’s Visit), music and lyrics by Erik Della Penna and David Yazbek (The Band’s Visit), and direction by David Cromer (The Band’s Visit, Prayer for the French Republic).
Colman Domingo will also star in and direct the audio adaptation of his play Wild With Happy. The imaginative work from the The Scottsboro Boys Tony nominee and Passing Strange Obie winner explores the bizarre comedy that lies within death and healing.
Four new Audible Originals will also be released September 21: Erica Schmidt's Lucy, Chris Gethard's A Father and the Sun, Michael Cruz Kayne's Sorry For Your Loss, and Diana Grisanti's Vanessa in Bed.
Lucy, written and directed by Schmidt, stars Brooke Bloom, Lynn Collins, and Charlotte Surak. A Father and the Sun is written and performed by Chris Gethard. Sorry for Your Loss is written and performed by Michael Cruz Kayne. Diana Grisanti's Vanessa in Bed is directed by Pirronne Yousefzedah, and features Karla Souza, Gisela Chípe, Carson Elrod, Annie Golden, Socorro Santiago, and Zoë Winters. All productions were captured during their 2023 runs at the Audible Theater.
The fifth cohort of Audible Emerging Playwrights, marking 50 total commissions, has also been announced and includes Ava Geyer, Deepak Kumar, Sinfolk (Gabriel Ruiz and J), Gloria Majule, and Omer Abbas Salem.
