Having presented the world premiere of Miles Malleson's Yours Unfaithfully in 2017, it's only fitting that Mint Theater Company is partnering with Jermyn Street Theatre to present the U.K. premiere of the "unromantic comedy." Jonathan Bank will direct the new production at the London theatre June 1-July 1.
Malleson's 1930s play follows Stephen and Anne, a couple with eight happy years of marriage behind them. But Stephen, a writer, isn't writing and as he loses a spark, Anne encourages him to find it elsewhere—outside of their marriage. In an intimate look at what happens in an open marriage behind closed doors, Yours Unfaithfully explores if their marriage can survive.
The London-based cast will feature Laura Doddington as Anne Meredith, Guy Lewis as Stephen Meredith, Dominic Marsh as Alan Kirby, Keisha Atwell as Diana Streatfield, and Tony Timberlake as Reverend Gordon Meredith.
Yours Unfaithfully was published 90 years ago, but never produced until New York's Mint Theater's 2017 production. "We can’t wait to welcome Jonathan to London and to give London audiences their much overdue opportunity to catch this witty, relevant play about modern love in the 1930s,” said Jermyn Street Theatre Artistic Director Stella Powell-Jones in a statement.
"I’m grateful to the folks at Jermyn Street Theater, who share Mint’s interest in re-discovering neglected plays, for partnering with us to make this production happen," said Bank. "Malleson had a great gift for conveying intimacy in dialogue and complexity in feeling, and I’m excited to work on this play again with an English cast, for an English audience. I expect to learn valuable lessons.” Jermyn Street Theatre is the West End's smallest producing theatre.
