Theatre-related films Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea and La La Land were all among nominees announced for Outstanding Achievement in Screenwriting in the 2017 Writers Guild of America Awards.

The winners will be announced February 19 at concurrent ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York.

The musical La La Land was written by Damien Chazelle, with lyrics by the Broadway songwriting team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Manchester by the Sea was written by playwright Kenneth Lonergan. Moonlight was written by Barry Jenkins, based on a play by Tarell Alvin McCraney.

The late August Wilson was nominated in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay for the script to his Fences.
