Gypsy's Electra to Light Up "Big Bang Theory" | Playbill

News Gypsy's Electra to Light Up "Big Bang Theory" June Squibb, the actress who sang "If you wanna make it, twinkle while you shake it" opposite Ethel Merman during the original run of Gypsy on Broadway, has been tapped to play the role of Sheldon's "Meemaw" on the TV series "The Big Bang Theory," according to Entertainment Weekly.

Squibb replaced the original light-up stripper Electra, Chotzi Foley, during the original run of the classic musical, in which they sang "You Gotta Get a Gimmick." She also appeared in the original casts of Broadway's The Happy Time, Gorey Stories and Sacrilege. In his role as Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory," actor Jim Parsons (Broadway's Act of God and Harvey) has frequently quoted his Meemaw (grandmother), but the character has not been seen until now. She is scheduled to make her debut on the show at a date to be announced in February.

Squibb, who earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in the movie "Nebraska," has numerous credits in film ("Meet Joe Black," "Scent of a Woman") and TV ("Code Black," "The Young and the Restless" and "Mom").
