Frozen Songwriters to Perform at Brooklyn Spring Sing | Playbill

Cabaret & Concert News Frozen Songwriters to Perform at Brooklyn Spring Sing Nancy Anderson, Willy Falk, and other Broadway veterans will join them.
Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez

The Oscar-winning Frozen songwriting team Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will join other Broadway talent April 24 in performance in the 3rd annual Brooklyn Children’s Theatre’s Spring Sing, at the Shapeshifter Lab in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

The 7–10 PM event is a fundraiser for the BCT’s scholarship program, which brings “the art of theatre to many youth who would otherwise not have access to musical theatre training.”

Lopez, who has also won Emmy, Tony, and Grammy awards for his various projects (including the Broadway scores to Book of Mormon and Avenue Q), is married to Anderson-Lopez, who contributed songs to the recent Broadway musical In Transit. As songwriting partners they shared the Oscar for the Frozen hit “Let It Go,” and are working on the live stage adaptation of that Disney animated film musical, which has been announced for Broadway in spring 2018.

The Spring Sing concert will also feature Broadway veterans Nancy Anderson, currently Glenn Close’s understudy in Sunset Boulevard; Willy Falk, who originated the role of Chris in the 1991 Miss Saigon; Tyley Ross, who played Lord Cannan in Finding Neverland; and Jim Stanek, who understudied the role of the father in Fun Home. Student performers will include Jackson Demott Hill (Finding Neverland), Sophia Davis, Mariah Hill, and Novahliz Tejada.

The student performers will join Aizzah Fatima (High Maintenance, The Good Wife) and Diana Kazakova (Godspell, The King and I), to sing “All American.” The rest of the playlist for the stars is still being finalized, but reportedly will consist of “songs that inspire them.”

The event will also include a silent auction and a live auction of goods and services including television and theatre tickets, fine art, a stay at a New Orleans vacation home, and VIP sports ticket packages. Tickets can be ordered at Brooklynchildrenstheatre.net/spring-sing.

Since its founding in 2004, Brooklyn Children’s Theatre has served thousands of young people, including hundreds of low-income youth, some living in family shelters. Shapeshifter Lab is located at 18 Whitwell Place at First Street in Brooklyn, New York.
