Awards Crystal Lucas-Perry to Host 66th Obie Awards

Honoring achievements Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway, the Obie Awards will be held later this month.

The American Theatre Wing has announced that the 66th Annual Obie Awards has found its host. Lucille Lortel Award-winning actress Crystal Lucas-Perry will lead the ceremony at Terminal 5 February 27.

Lucas-Perry recently starred on Broadway as John Adams in 1776 and as Passenger 5 in Ain't No Mo'. The actor reprised the latter from the Off-Broadway production which earned her a Lucille Lortel Award. Off-Broadway, she has also starred in A Bright Room Called Day, Bull in a China Shop, and Little Children Dream of God.

"She is the absolute embodiment of the Off-Broadway spirit. She’s not only a riveting performer and respected collaborator, but a cherished member of the New York theatre community,” says American Theatre Wing President and CEO Heather Hitchens.

Co-chairing this year's awards are Obie-winning director and producing artistic leader David Mendizábal and theatre critic Melissa Rose Bernardo. Serving on the judges panel are actor and fight choreographer Dave Anzuelo, scenic designer Wilson Chin, Obie-winning playwright Haruna Lee, Obie-winning director and playwright Lisa Peterson, and Obie-winning actor Heather Alicia Simms.
