Written in 1903, Man and Superman is a battle-of-the-sexes comedy who cross continents to in pursuit of—and in retreat from—their desires and fears. The characters even take a trip into Hades for to chat with the Devil in this lauded work by the Irish playwright.

The cast will perform a two-and-a-half hour version of the play which including the infamous Don Juan in Hell scene. Staller previously directed the work Off-Broadway in 2012 and had compressed the entire play into a shorter version for that production. “George Bernard Shaw became a playwright to embrace comedy as a way for us to find clarity in our lives. He was the first actual theatrical activist in the English language, fighting for the individual rights of all people,” said Staller in a statement. “This amazingly fast-moving comedy of discovery and romance is the perfect play to share today as it challenges everything we’ve been taught while encouraging us to face life on our own terms."

The reading is being presented as part of Gingold Theatrical Group's script-in-hand series Project Shaw. Additional readings for the series' 18th season, all to be presented in a concert reading format at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre, will be announced at a later date. Each event is followed by a talk back featuring cast members.

Man and Superman made its Broadway premiere in 1905 and played 192 performances through February, 1906 at the Hudson Theatre.
