Historian John Monsky's The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE Day will air on PBS to mark Veterans Day beginning November 1 and will also stream via the PBS app. The film captures a performance offered by Boston Pops at Boston Symphony Hall earlier this year.

The work includes compositions from Aaron Copland, Glenn Miller, Richard Rodgers, Frank Loesser, and John Williams, with Keith Lockhart at the baton. Providing vocals are Broadway favorites Shereen Ahmed (My Fair Lady), Kate Rockwell (Mean Girls), Nicholas Rodriguez (Company) and Daniel Yearwood (Hamilton, Sweeney Todd). Peter Flynn directed the event for the stage, and Ian Weinberger served as music director and arranger.

The performance sees Monsky narrating the story of the final months of World War II in Europe, using the words and images of Ernest Hemingway, Lee Miller, Robert Capa, the 761st Tank Battallion, and a young intelligence officer who would become a novelist. The show incorporates music, history, and rare film and photographs sourced from the National Archives.  Monsky is the performance's writer, creator, narrator, and executive producer, and Eric Duran served as media producer.

Monsky's historical symphonic works have explored the Vietnam War, the race to the moon, D-Day, and World War I. Most recently, his production November 1918: The Great War & The Great Gatsby played to a sold-out crowd at Carnegie Hall.

The broadcast is being distributed to PBS via American Public Television and is produced by American History Unbound, Boston Pops, and Bright Blue Group.
