Historian John Monsky's The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE Day will play the Boston Symphony Hall May 29 and 30, featuring the Boston Pops. The work includes compositions from Aaron Copland, Glenn Miller, Richard Rodgers, Frank Loesser, and John Williams.

Keith Lockhart will conduct the famed orchestra, with vocals from Stephanie Jae Park (Hamilton), Kate Rockwell (Mean Girls), Nicholas Rodriguez (Company) and Daniel Yearwood (Hamilton, Sweeney Todd).

In The Eyes of the World, Monsky narrates the story of the final months of World War II in Europe, using the words and images of Ernest Hemingway, Lee Miller, Robert Capa, the 761st Tank Battallion, and a young intelligence officer who would become a novelist. The show incorporates music, history, and rare film and photographs sourced from the National Archives. 

“Boston is where American history began, and it is only fitting that we honor this moment—the 80th anniversary of D-Day with this symphonic lecture—here," Monsky said in a statement. "We will travel back in time to relive the journeys of four remarkable figures and honor the bravery of those who fought for a small strip of beach and beyond. There is no one like Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops to transport us to this dramatic and pivotal in moment in history.”

Joining writer, creator, narrator, and executive producer Monsky on the creative team are music director and arranger Ian Weinberger (Hamilton), and director Peter Flynn. Eric Duran serves as media producer.

Meredith Wagner is executive producing, alongside producers Diaz, Gene Graham, and Randy Chaplin, with assistant producer Reece dos Santos.

Monsky's historical symphonic works have explored the Vietnam War, the race to the moon, D-Day, and World War I. Most recently, his production November 1918: The Great War & The Great Gatsby played to a sold-out crowd at Carnegie Hall.
