The Tony Awards Administration Committee met for the third time this season on April 19 to eligibility decisions for eight Broadway productions: Days of Wine and Roses; Doubt: A Parable; The Notebook; An Enemy of the People; Water for Elephants; The Who's Tommy; The Outsiders; and Lempicka.

The Administration Committee had also met previously to discuss the fall/winter productions: I Need That, Harmony, Spamalot, How to Dance in Ohio, Appropriate, and Prayer for the French Republic.

Eligibility for the various awards categories is usually determined based on opening-night billing as printed in the show's Playbill. The Administration Committee delivers rulings when producers request eligibility that differs from the show's billing or in situations where the billing makes the categorization more difficult, such as when a production's cast is billed completely in alphabetical order rather than having its leading stars at the top.

Most notable among the decisions is Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' Appropriate being named eligible for the Best Revival of a Play category. Although the acclaimed family drama has never been seen on Broadway before, the 11-year-old play has enjoyed numerous productions around the country and internationally.

Other notable rulings included who in an ensemble cast are considered leading actors. For instance, Maryann Plunkett and Dorian Harewood are eligible for the Lead Actor in a Musical categories for The Notebook—even though they both share their respective roles with two other actors (who will likely be placed in Featured Actor in a Musical categories).

The Tony Awards eligibility cut-off date for the 2023–2024 season is April 25. Nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards will be announced April 30. The Tony will be handed out June 16 at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater.

The committee made the following determinations:

Maryann Plunkett and Dorian Harewood will be considered eligible in the Best Performance by an Actress/Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical categories for their respective performances in The Notebook.

Ben Stanton and Lucy Mackinnon will be considered jointly eligible in the Best Lighting Design of a Musical category for their work in The Notebook.
