Video Sara Bareilles Shares Her Thoughts on Al Roker Joining Waitress on Broadway The Tony-nominated composer-lyricist stopped by The Today Show to discuss the anchor’s upcoming debut in her show.

Waitress’s Tony- and Grammy-nominated composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles (who has also starred in the show) stopped by The Today Show to talk about NBC favorite Al Roker joining the cast of her Broadway musical.

“We've been lobbying for this for a while,” said Bareilles out on the Plaza.

Roker takes over the role of Joe, owner of Joe’s Pie Diner, in the Broadway show beginning October 5 for a limited engagement through November 11. He has been taking voice lessons with Broadway vocal coach Deric Rosenblatt. As for how he sounds, Bareilles says “it was beautiful” the first time she heard him sing his solo “Take It From an Old Man.” This marks Roker’s Broadway debut.
