March is Women's History Month, so settle in with a few streaming titles celebrating some of the ladies in the entertainment industry.

Netflix has the return of Girls5EVa, about a pop group making a comeback and Shirley, about groundbreaking activist Shirley Chisholm. Apple TV+ premieres Palm Royale, centering on a group of women at a Palm Beach resort, and the Roku Channel has Chelsea Peretti as a First Time Female Director. Read on for more.

Funny lady Kristen Wiig stars as an ambitious underdog longing to break into Palm Beach high society by literally breaking into its most exclusive club, the Palm Royale. Based on the 2018 novel Mr. & Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel, the series boasts a starry cast, including Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Leslie Bibb, Laura Dean, and Josh Lucas. Plus special guest star Carol Burnett! (We've been waiting for this series since they teased it during her 90th birthday special last summer. Give us Carol in a turban!) The first three episodes drop March 20, with the remaining seven released weekly. 

Steve Martin fans have a two-part film treat coming their way this month. Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville, who created the rock documentary 20 Feet From Stardom and the Fred Rogers pic Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, is centering the white-haired comedian for his next project. STEVE! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces is just that—a two-part documentary film about Steve Martin. Martin narrates Part One, comprising a trove of archival materials from Martin’s career beginnings in comedy, including unseen performance footage, photos, newspaper clippings, and his own journals. Part Two is a more personal look at the contemporary Martin, filmed in real time by Neville, with interviews and camera access to most areas of his life, including some scenes shot with collaborator Martin Short as they worked on their comedy special. Expect Neville to dig deep to tell more than just a chronology of a career as he explores the life of the actor, stand-up, musician, and Tony-nominated writer. Both parts, from Apple Originals Films and A24, hit the streamer March 29.

Ballet and Billy Elliot fans can look forward to the heart string-tugging documentary Madu, about a young Nigerian boy who dreams of dancing. Anthony Madu's acceptance to a prestigious ballet school in England is a joy and accomplishment, but not without its struggles as he looks for acceptance while missing his home and family. The film premieres March 29.

Girls5Eva, the Tina Fey-produced comedy series about a ‘90s girl group reuniting for a second chance at stardom, is getting its own "take two” this month. After Peacock decided it would not renew the series after its second season, the show was snatched up by Netflix, which will premiere all six episodes of the third season March 14. Though Girls5Eva may have been a one-hit wonder, the actors who play the titular girl group have quite a few smashes among them: Sara Bareilles (Waitress composer and Grammy-winning recording artist), Renée Elise Goldsberry (a Tony and Grammy winner for her role in Hamilton), Paula Pell (Emmy winning SNL writer and comedian) and Busy Philipps (Freaks and Geeks and Cougar Town star, and recent Mean Girls “cool mom”). In Season 3, the girls hit the road for a big comeback tour, testing their relationships with each other, their significant others, and even their parents. The tour will lead them to question if they really even want to make it big. Most of the shows songs are penned by series creator Meredith Scardino and Jeff Richmond, Fey’s frequent co-producer husband and Mean Girls the musical composer.

Regina King stars as activist and politician Shirley Chisholm in the biopic Shirley. Written and directed by John Ridley, the film focuses on Chisolm's 1972 presidential run when she made history as the first Black candidate to seek a major party’s nomination for president. Also appearing in the film are Lance Reddick, Lucas Hedges, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Christina Jackson, Michael Cherrie, Dorian Crossmond Missick, Amirah Vann, W. Earl Brown, Brad James, and Reina King, with André Holland and Terrence Howard. Stream it March 22.

Roku

Comedian Chelsea Peretti makes her film feature directorial debut with the comedy First Time Female Director, which she also wrote and stars in. When the director of her new play is fired, playwright Sam (Peretti) must take the helm of her Southern-inspired play, Rain's Comin' In and save the production. The ensemble cast includes Andy Richter as the theatre’s artistic director; Megan Mullally, Megan Starter, and Kate Berlant as cast members; and Amy Poehler (who also produces the film) as Sam’s therapist. Stream it March 8.
