DESCRIPTION

Duties and responsibilities

• Paint and texture scenery
• Mix and match paint colors
• Read and interpret drawings and renderings
• See and communicate color; verbally or with swatches
• Work under deadline pressure
• Communicate with charge artists and peers in a professional and positive manner
• Sew fabric goods and backdrops for scenery
• Supervise and work closely with occasional/overhire employees

Qualifications

• Demonstrate experience in a professional scenery paint shop or similar
• Knowledge of different kinds of paints and chemicals used in scenic art
• Knowledge of proper safety regarding chemical use, handling, and disposing
• Knowledge of tools, brushes, sprayers, stencils etc.
• Drawing skills
• Color theory and paint mixing skills
• Paint and finish wood, steel, plastic and foam scenery, including faux finishes and trompe l’oeil
• Knowledge of different layout techniques on vertical and horizontal surfaces
• Problem solving skills
