Description:

A legendary Argentine footballer facing an existential crisis. Though known for his skill and humility, he now finds himself unable to play the game that defined him. Humorous in an understated way, he balances deep emotional struggle with moments of self-deprecating charm. Needs strong comedic timing, physicality, and the ability to convey vulnerability beneath the humor. He is about 40.

Skills:

• Comfortable with light physical comedy

• Comfortable with with new work

• Playing football (soccer) is a plus, as well as the ability to imitate Messi
• Spanish-speaking ability is a plus

Rehearsal & Performance Schedule:

• Rehearsals: Early AM rehearsals (time TBD but less than 2 hours) from April 11-23, with days off TBD.
• Tech: April 22-24
• Performances: 12 PM shows on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from April 25 - May 4, with an additional 7 PM show on Sunday, April 27

• Short play

Payment: $500 - we anticipate the total amount of work will be about 25 hours.

Casting Note:

This is a surreal, comedic role requiring an actor who can play both Messi’s larger-than-life presence and his unexpected awkwardness in a theatre setting.
