"I want to do movies," Michele told Groff in the cover story of Teen Vogue. "I have some exciting things coming up! And I would love to go back to Broadway. Ryan Murphy just got the rights to Funny Girl, so we're hoping to do that at some point."
Personally, she said, "I don't think I can really answer that question [about what is next] because right now I'm focusing on my job and taking care of myself. Maybe in a little while I'll be like, What do I want? But I'm not quite there yet."
Michele, who refers to herself on Twitter as a "Streisand Worshiper," has previously been talked about to take on the role of Fanny Brice in a Broadway return of the Tony-nominated musical by Bob Merrill (lyrics), Jule Styne (music) and Isobel Lennart (book). Producers such as Bob Boyett have reportedly expressed interest.
On "Glee," co-creator Murphy worked in a Broadway Funny Girl revival, starring Michele's character Rachel, to the show's plot. Below is a photo of Michele in front of Broadway's St. James Theatre, which adorns a Funny Girl marquee.
On the death of "Glee" co-star Monteith, who died July 13, 2013, from a "mixed drug toxicity" of heroin and alcohol at Vancouver's Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel, she told Groff, "My relationship with Cory made me feel like I could reach for the stars and more… I somehow feel the insane love Cory and I had for each other morphed in to this strength that I have right now. There's just something about knowing he's watching everything I'm doing and feeling like I have to do everything now not just for me but for him. I also have a safety net below me — if I fall or if it's too much, my friends and family will be there to catch me. "I've never had a best friend like you," she told Groff. "I never had the person who's the person. The person you call, the person who's there, the person who gets you, the person who makes you laugh. You know, that person."
The fifth season of "Glee," which will go "exclusively" to New York for the second half of the year while some students at the Ohio-set McKinley High will graduate, will return Feb. 25. Visit Fox.com/Glee. As previously reported, the sixth season will be its last.
