London's West End says goodbye to & Juliet as the pop musical takes its final bow at the Shaftesbury Theatre March 25. The pop jukebox musical began its West End run in November 2019.
The show, a sequel to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet that imagines a world in which Juliet doesn't kill herself, made the jump across the pond for a Broadway debut at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre that opened November 17, 2022. U.K. original cast member Melanie La Barrie transferred with the production, reprising her performance as Nurse. The musical features a book by Schitt's Creek writer and Emmy winner David West Read and music from Grammy winner Max Martin.
The West End production is directed by Luke Sheppard, who also helmed the Broadway transfer. Choreography is by Jennifer Weber, with scenic design by Soutra Gilmour and costume design by Paloma Young. Max Martin and Tim Headington present along with producers Martin Dodd, Jenny Petersson, and Theresa Steele Page.
& Juliet has a U.K. tour in the works, along with productions in Europe and Melbourne.
The West End cast currently features Nicolas Colicos as Lance, Billy Nevers as Francois, Joe Foster as May, and Miriam-Teak Lee as Juliet, with Cassidy Janson as Anne Hathaway, Oliver Tompsett as William Shakespeare, Tom Francis as Romeo, Malinda Parris as Nurse, and Ivan De Freitas as Lord Capulet and Sky.
The ensemble includes Ebony Clarke, Rhian Duncan, Bessy Ewa, Collette Guitart, Cassandra Lee, Nathan Louis-Fernand, Zara MacIntosh, Carl Man, Christian Maynard, Rachel Moran, Owen Saward, Aaron Shales, Benjamin Terry, Alex Tranter, Sophie Usher, Rhys Wilkinson, and Suki Wong.
