Broadway's Water for Elephants has been picked up for licensing by Broadway Licensing Global. The acquisition places it alongside several other titles by the same authors, including PigPen Theatre Co. works The Old Man and the Old Man, The Nightmare Story, and The Mountain Song; and book writer Rick Elice's The Cher Show.
The musical, based on Sara Gruen's novel, opened at Broadway's Imperial Theatre March 21, and recently announced a final performance set for December 8. The show previously announced its first national tour, which will begin in fall 2025 in Baltimore, Maryland, at the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center. The work, which features songs by PigPen Theatre Co. and a book by Elice, tells the story of a man who runs away from his life, only to find himself caught up in a traveling circus. “We’re eager to see how directors and designers create their own vision of the Benzini Brothers traveling circus,” says BLG Chief Executive Officer Ted Chapin in a statement. “Water for Elephants is a perfect addition to Broadway Licensing’s diverse collection of musicals.”
The show is not yet available for licensing, but those interested can sign up to receive notifications when they become available at BroadwayLicensing.com.
