Massachusetts' Tanglewood has unveiled its summer 2024 season, which will include a concert evening dedicated to contemporary Broadway songwriters. Broadway Today!: Broadway's Modern Masters, planned for July 6 at the outdoor venue, will be directed by Jason Danieley with Georgia Stitt serving as music supervisor. Keith Lockhart will lead the Boston Pops Orchestra from the podium.
On hand to perform will be Tony winner Victoria Clark, Micaela Diamond, Mandy Gonzalez, Joshua Henry, Darius de Haas, and Bryce Pinkham.
Audiences can expect to hear songs from such musicals as Hamilton, In the Heights, The Light in the Piazza, Kimberly Akimbo, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, The Band's Visit, and Dear Evan Hansen, among others.
Nestled in the Berkshires, Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Pops, where the ensemble is joined by a host of internationally known musicians for a series of performances spanning most music genres. Audiences have the choice of getting traditional seating in the covered theatre or lawn tickets for the large stretch of grass behind it. Lawn festival goers are invited to bring picnics, but some go so far as to bring remarkably elaborate setups including tables, tents, and even chandeliers.
Also scheduled to take the Tanglewood stage this summer are James Taylor (celebrating his 50th anniversary with the venue), Renée Fleming, Midori, Thomas Warfield, Joshua Bell, Yo-Yo Ma, John Williams, Kool & the Gang, and more. Find the full schedule at BSO.org.
